WORKING TOWARDS A HUNGER-FREE WORLD

HHFI is a Nairobi-based non-profit NGO dedicated to combating food and nutrition insecurity and poverty through the practice and teaching of urban agriculture. HHFI engages with target groups in urban and peri-urban areas, teaching organic gardening, water management, and environmental conservation.
Kenya's urban population accounts for about 27% of the country's total 50 million population. 70% of urban dwellers live in slums, while 13% of high density urban households have unacceptably low levels of food consumption.
Urban agriculture, coupled with local food systems and short supply chains, is an effective countermeasure to food insecurity in cities. HHFI works with households and community groups to increase the supply of locally sourced, organic, nutritious food.
HHFI empowers target group members by demonstrating and teaching agricultural techniques appropriate for small space gardening, providing farm material inputs, teaching farm management and business skills, and advocating for stronger, healthier and safer communities.
